Well. I digged up for some food from the dumpster outside the supermarket tonight. And they are not at all disgusting! It was my first time to go and we waited till the staff to leave first, not that it is illegal in Denmark, but we were kind of feeling embarrassed.. Here's our FRUITS of the experience!
According to Stop Wasting Food and industry association Agriculture and Food, Denmark has a food waste of 540,000 tonnes per year, equivalent to 2.145 billion Euro. The average Dane loses 63 kg of food per year.
While dumpster diving may not be a very efficient way to deal with the food waste in the country, it did shed light on the huge amount of food we waste in the supermarkets every now and then!
